A dermatologist is a doctor specialising in diagnosing and treating skin diseases and cancers. They complete five years of specialised training and exams after medical school to become certified by the Australasian College of Dermatologists.
Typically every 12mths you should get a skin check. Some people with certain skin types or a particular spot that needs monitoring may require more regular checks. Please seek advice from your General Practitioner or Dermatologist.
Phototherapy uses ultraviolet (UV) light to treat skin conditions like psoriasis and eczema. It mimics sunlight, which helps improve these conditions for many people. Two common types are Narrow Band UVB (NBUVB) and PUVA, which differ in the wavelengths used. PUVA requires a medication to increase skin sensitivity to UV light, while NBUVB does not. Although effective, phototherapy increases skin aging and the risk of skin cancer, so treatment is limited.
Most patients who are able to attend regularly for treatment will find that their psoriasis or eczema is 70% improved after 20-30 treatments.
Your appointment at Northern Beaches Dermatology is typically 15-20mins. Some of our Dermatologists practice with 30 minute appointments. Surgical procedures may require longer duration and would be booked accordingly.
A current referral from your General Practioner is required to see our specialist Dermatologists to enable you to receive the full Medicare rebate. Patients can be seen unreferred but will not receive a benefit from Medicare. Please also bring along your Medicare, DVA or Pension card if applicable.
We value your time and strive to provide the best possible service. If you need to cancel an appointment, please notify us at least 24 hours in advance. This allows us to offer your appointment slot to another patient on our waiting list.
Cancellations made without at least 24 hours’ notice, or failure to attend a confirmed appointment, can incur a $100 cancellation fee. Thank you for your understanding.
